It’s very well thought out and executed with top-end materials. It doesn’t cut corners. The Energi+ Backpack by TYLT is the portable charging backpack for the tech lover who is on the go. More specifically, the Energi+ Backpack has 13 pockets in total. One of those pockets folds completely open and cradles a whopping 10,400mAh Lithium Ion battery that can charge three devices at once. Within this large battery-carrying pocket there are many hook n’ loop straps to meticulously guide the three charging cables that come with the backpack. These cables can be directed to any of seven pockets specifically designed for devices: five on the outside of the backpack and two on the inside.

On the 10,400mAh power bank, two ports are specifically designed for phone charging with 1 amp outputs, and one port will output 2.1 amps for charging tablets. What that means for you is that any of the ports can be use individually or simultaneously, but one port will charge faster than the others. But with over 10,000mAh, you can charge your phone, your friend’s phone, your Nexus 7, and probably have enough juice to charge your phone a little bit more before the power bank needs recharging. The TYLT Energi+ Backpack has pockets specifically for your different devices. On the top, it has a pocket for your phone and has holes for headphones to exit the backpack for use with your phone or MP3 player, if people still use those these days. Additionally, it has a pocket specifically for tablets. All of these previously-mentioned pockets are lined with a soft fabric to keep your devices protected and scratch-free. I really have none, but I do think the buyer should be aware of what they are buying and what the backpack is not. A little part of me wishes it had more straps, like a chest and waist strap. Don’t get me wrong, the two straps the Energi+ Backpack does have are very cushiony and comfortable, and it’s clear that they were not an afterthought.

The TYLT Energi+ Backpack does have 13 pockets and 110 cubic inches of space, but I don’t think it would make a great book bag. I initially thought this bag might be great for students who spend long hours on campus and can’t always be tied to a wall. While I do think the backpack would help a student through a long day, I don’t think it would comfortably carry many books, especially bigger ones. Depending on the amount of other stuff you carry around, I wouldn’t expect to comfortably put more than two large textbooks in the bag at a time. If you’re a student or you’re supporting a student, this bag could be a great gift if they often use ebooks. If you’re lugging around a lot of books, though, buying a battery pack for whatever bag is working for you now might be the better way to go. One other thing to consider with the Energi+ Backpack over buying just a regular power bank is that with the battery strapped in the backpack and the cables organized and nicely directed to the different pockets, it’s not very simple to use your devices while charging.

They’ll charge great while you’re on the go and they’re sitting in your backpack, but if you’re one who likes to let your phone’s battery die and wants to use the phone while it’s charging, it would be inconvenient to pull the battery and cables out of the backpack.
