The Backpacks mod adds five types of backpacks: The Backpack, Big Backpack, Workbench Backpack, Big Workbench Backpack and Ender Backpack. These can be worn in your chest armour slot. While wearing a Backpack, you can access its inventory by pressing the assigned keybind ("B" by default). The Backpack can also be opened by right-clicking while holding one. You can Shift + Right Click a Backpack to rename it. The standard and big backpacks can be crafted in 16 colors, in addition to the standard recipe. BetterStorage adds more storage options, like Storage Crates, Backpacks, Reinforced Chests, Lockers, Armor Stands, as well as locks and keys for its chests. Chests in BetterStorage have 12 more inventory slots than Vanilla chests. All of the chests have the same durability and storage space, but look different and use different materials to make. These Chests are immune to Creeper explosions. Chests may be placed side by side to form double chests just like Vanilla chests, and can also be placed directly next to a Vanilla chest or double chest without connecting to it.

You can place Locks on chests, and enchant these locks with different abilities. Keys can be color coded with Vanilla dyes and can be placed on a keyring to consolidate space. In addition to new chests, there are Storage Crate and Lockers.
