Big enough to act as a mobile locker for all their books and 3-ring binders. This is our second one, the first one lasted three years. I'm a high schooler. This bag lasted 1 semester before the zipper tore from the main fabric. This bag is a piece of poop. Well-organized, attractive pack, but returning after my son used it for just one week -- zipper on the large compartment completely pulled off. Not my experience with High Sierra, so I hope this was just a fluke. I'd also recommend: The North Face (much better), Nike Both of my teens have this backpack for middle school and high school. They no longer have lockers at school, so this pack works as a mobile locker storing way too many binders and lunch, etc. Plenty of separate pockets to keep things organized, which is necessary at this age. We used to buy a new backpack almost every year, but these are on their 2nd and 3rd years.
