This is done to prevent lock picking which would otherwise be very easy. Locks are designed such that they can only be reset once the lock is opened.Your two options are to either pick the lock or break it open. Picking might take time and you have to be very careful. /support/t57...If you don't want to open the link, here's the transcript from the answer:• Place the suitcase right side up and look at every number wheel to find a hole at the bottom.• Bring the holes of the three wheels in the same position.• Now keep holding the button as to unlock and rotate the 1st wheel and reduce its number by 1.• Repeat the same process with the rest of the two wheels. • Again start with the 1st wheel and reduce another 1 position.• Repeat the same process with the rest of the two wheels. • Attempt the whole process for the third time and your suitcase will get unlocked.Now, when turning each wheel, there is a very small click or a change in perception of the "feel" when you reach the right number on the wheel.

That will take time.The brute force method will destroy the lock but then again, most locks are designed to withstand this though the bag itself may not be. You could try pry open the zip.Update: I went and bought one of these to try and see if I could pick it. It wasn't too hard. As you turn each wheel, the sound changes slightly when you hit the right number. You could remove the zip (if it's a zip type) by prying it out of the hook structure.I’m assuming that the luggage is closed and locked. On a three-digit combination lock that you own, there’s no need to use any destructive method to open it.

There are two techniques that you can try.Put some pressure on the opening latch, like you were going to open the suitcase. Obviously, at some point the latch will stop because it’s locked. While holding the latch in that position, see if you can turn any of the number wheels. If you can’t, you’ll need to use the slower method (see below). If you *can*, then one of the wheels will be harder to turn than the others. Turn that wheel until you feel something move or settle into place - signs that you’ve got things where you want them are that the latch button moves very slightly, or that it’s very difficult now to turn that wheel away from the number you’ve got it on. Of the two remaining wheels, again, one will be harder to turn than the other - turn that wheel until the same thing happens, then turn the last wheel until the lock opens. At this point, you’ll once again know the combination, so it’s up to you whether to reset it or not.If you cannot turn the wheels with pressure on the latch - a common security feature in locks like this - you’ll be taking advantage of the fact that you own the lock, and can spend a few minutes fiddling with it.

You’re gonna start with 0–0–0, and try to open the lock. If that’s no good, go to 0–0–1, then 0–0–2… once you get into a rhythm, you’ll be able to try about two combinations per second, which at worst will take 500 seconds, which is about 8 minutes and change. This isn’t something a burglar would do at an airport, for instance, because 8 minutes is way too long to be suspiciously fiddling with luggage, but 8 minutes is a totally worthwhile expenditure to rescue some otherwise useless luggage.Quick side-note: I’m assuming the luggage latch is in pretty smooth working order; if you know the latch to work hard, then slow down to about a second per number and wiggle the latch each time. I’ve blown past combinations before because the latch felt locked, but was really just gummy.As Anvesh Gangadharan wrote, turning a dial to the correct number sometimes causes a change in the ‘feel’. Either the whole locking mechanism will feel a little looser or the mechanism will click differently.

I had to unlock a four-dial bike lock that I had forgotten the combination to. I didn’t want to work through all 9,999 combinations so I turned each one ten times (=40) and found two that caused the lock to be looser - the two pieces rattled a little more. That is if the number corresponding to hole is 4, then 4 - 3- 2- 1 , i.e 1 is the required digit for that wheel. If number corresponding to hole is 0, then 0 -9 -8 - 7, I.e 7 is the required digit for that wheel.
