I first bought an Eddie Bauer First Ascent light down jacket five years ago and have been very happy with it. This is the perfect vest! Make sure you try it on store to get the right fit, but it works as a perfect mid layer and an outer layer in slightly warmer weather. I've used it to hike, bike, backpack, sleep, and I even wear it to work as it's a pretty neutral and stylish vest. I have looked at all brands including Sierra Designs for over 10 years to replace it. Its qualities and versatility cannot be matched by any product made today that I can find. Everyone I have met and talked to would like to know where to get one. I will work with anyone and do whatever it takes to have another one produced. This vest is the most important… The thin profile allows for good layering options. Retains heat well and inner cords allow for getting a very good fit. I have owned many varieties of vests over the years. This vest packs easily for trips and holds its shape. I have been in very cold temperatures with this vest and it does a good job of keeping my torso warm. I have worn vests that are lower in price and nearly as comfortable and useful.
