Title: Equine Studies Instructor Telephone: 859.381.3990 ext. 30218 I grew up mainly in GA (Air Force brat), and although I did not grow up on a farm I have ridden horses since I was about 6 years old. I started in the local saddle club doing hunters and was turned into an eventer when I joined the United States Pony Club at age 13. I was converted to western riding for a time when I lived in Texas and although I’m a little rusty now, I used to be a decent team roper. Still to this day I am the only one in my family involved in the Ag industry in any way, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I did my undergraduate work at Clemson University in SC where I earned a BS in Animal Science with a concentration in Equine Studies. During that time I was also given the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Limerick in Ireland as well as become a working student for Bryony Perceval, an upper level event rider there. I then obtained my first master's from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in Agriculture.

While there I managed the WTAMU horse center and worked closely with the TX Department of Agriculture tackling the crisis that the equine slaughter ban act created. I obtained my second Master’s in 2015 from EKU in Agriculture Education in order to teach at Locust Trace. My professional interests include instructing students in various aspects of the horse industry and equine care. I also love to share both the national (especially the western states aspect) and international equine industry with students and hope to take them on trips to the western states to allow them to experience other areas of the industry first-hand. I am also very interested in composting and environmental science and how it relates to the equine industry on a large scale. I love implementing more reading and writing curriculum into my content area, as I feel this is an area that my students lack skill. My personal interests include anything outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, camping, and kayaking. My husband and I run a cow/calf operation in central Kentucky and I love being involved in the day to day running of our family farm.

I volunteer with the Bluegrass Pony Club and feel it is important to give back to an organization that gave so much to me. We also have two dogs: a mutt (boxer/bloodhound/lab) named Abby and a German Rottweiler named Alpha and one very opinionated cat: Steve. The dogs love life on the farm and backpack/camp with us often. Alpha is also in training to be a therapy dog at the local children's hospital.
