I have a large LowePro all weather backpack that I use with my 4x5 gear.
Great frame for heavy loads and a built-in rain cover.  I've carried 60lbs in all sorts of weather in this bag.  My sole complaint was that the tripod was mounted on the back and away from the body increasing the amount of weight. This is a smaller bag that I use for my dSLR kit.  This is the best thought-through bag I have ever used or seen.  The backpack can be used with or without the waist belt.  The shoulder straps can zip away into the bag so you can easily get the bag into an overhead compartment or trunk without the straps getting in the way.  You can open the entire interior compartment or open one side at a time keeping your gear from spilling.  Plenty of zipped compartments inside and out for keeping your accessories.  It comes with a rain cover (not built-in but still handy).  You can attach a tripod to the side or rear.  The empty bag is surprisingly light.  The bag is smaller than the LowePro and not designed to carry a really heavy load but I find it is perfect for my dSLR.Worth mentioning is a sling bag that I used for a while made by Incase and designed by Ari Marcopoulos.
I like this bag but it is too small for the gear I carry.  It has a wide-comfortable sling (seat-belt wide). I could fit a pro dSLR with a lens or two but not much more.  A good bag for a smaller kit and likely perfect for a rangefinder or 4:3 kit.  Also has a rain cover.
