Macpac's international distribution is through third party companies in Europe, United Kingdom, Japan and Chile. Macpac's roots can be traced to New Zealander Bruce McIntyre, who began designing his own outdoor gear after he left university aged 19 in 1973. In 1975, he was involved with developing gear for a group of young men from the Canterbury Mountaineering Club who were heading to the South American Andes. ultimate backpack udgThe result was New Zealand’s first internal frame climbing pack – the Torre Egger. McIntyre extended the Torre Egger concept to suit trampers and travellers as well. He focused on customer service and product quality. By 1978, sales were growing at 100% a year and Macpac was unable to keep up with demand. Nevertheless, McIntyre headed to Australia to develop the company’s first export market. In 1987, he began exporting to the Netherlands and Switzerland, soon followed by Germany and the UK.
In 2003, Macpac moved the majority of its production to Asia, shedding 150 jobs in Christchurch. McIntyre, the managing director at this time, blamed a 40% rise in the New Zealand dollar and a slow-down in international travel. In 2007, Macpac under the Mouton Noir parent company assimilated the down apparel and equipment retailer Fairydown. In September 2016, Macpac signed a deal with Amazon to enter the United States market. Macpac designs and manufactures a range of outdoor equipment, ranging from outdoor clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags to lightweight adventure and camping tents. Macpac has been a major sponsor of the New Zealand Alpine Team since 2013, and has a range of alpine-specific clothing and packs [4] In January 2016 the company was sold to Champ Ventures. Macpac products are no longer available through third party retailers, and instead are now sold directly in Macpac branded stores. Day 135: 23rd Jan: Cape Reinga to Bluff -12th September 2016 - 23rd January 2017. Four months
and eleven days thru-h...iking on Te Araroa Trail, New Zealands Long Pathway. 135 very special days and one of the most amazing adventures and achievements of my life...solo and unsupported. A little bit sad its over but like I have said Im ready for it to be. Im tired. I er miss the trail and the life style and the people. I am so proud of New Zealands Long Trail and the amazing experiences, challenges, landscapes and terrains it gives its walkers. I am so proud of the New Zealanders on this trail whom have given to the walkers whether that be a bed, meal, yarn or more. I am so proud of the other walkers I have met, walked and lived with on this trail. I admire the purists on this trail as it takes great determination and integrity to tackle the trail in the way they have but I admire And respect those that are happy enough within themselves about accomplishing what most of us thru hikers set out to do but for what ever reason didnt/couldnt and that they also see the great in us other thru hikers too. Thru hiking
is not for everyone and months on the trail is a great achievement and everyone that has given the whole country or one island, a go in one shot, should feel proud of themselves...especially as half the thru hikers I met have done minimal tramping let alone in New Zealands diverse and challenging terrains and as it unfortunately turned out, unaccomodating weather!!! Finished with # Trail Thank you all who have donated to my cause so far. Please if any others have a few dollars spare to donate too, it all adds up. I will be keeping my Give a Little page open and hope to do some more fundraising now I am off the trail and can! So far from all sources I have raised around $6,500, I would love to raise more!! Thank you to all the people who helped me on the way...my sponsors, my Bayleys hosts, my friends and family hosts and other 'trail angels' More thank you's to follow though on future posts. Life is short and more adventures are awaiting. The adventures must get through! This page will remain open for a while longer as I will be updating post trail stories too...please keep following #traceyswalkforwishes https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/traceyswalkforwishes MacpacThere is no app to replace this ⛰️ πŸ“: Hakatere Conservation Park πŸ“·: @claudschi8 # MacpacCan you believe someone would leave this gem behind?
