I'm of course referring to single use -- I don't think it's practical for 2 adults unless maybe Siamese twins who have no choice. The optional ground cloth Zephyr 2 Tent Floor Saver is helpful for protecting the bottom from damage but seems to have no other advantage. Good for rocky ground for sure.costco wenger backpackThe fly creates a vestibule on either side that protects additional gear. pivoter backpackDuring the unexpected deluge I had a bunch of items -- boots, towels, food, etc -- there and it was all dry. samsonite guardit laptop backpack mediumThe fly can be unzipped and rolled back to let in the zephyrs as the tent itself is mesh. You need the fly for cold weather and the Zyphyr 2 is very airy in the heat. The setup instructions are less than minimal.
It assumes you have set up these kind of tents before and only gives a hint of what to do. The color photo on the box was many times more informative than the washed out line drawing. Hint: when you first set it up make sure all the zippers are closed. Otherwise you wind up with a 3-D Mobius strip to untangle, where the inside slowly becomes outside and vice versa. Be sure to close the zippers before packing it up.The stakes are probably OK for non-rocky ground but I got MSR GroundHog Tent Stakes, which were hammerable into the rocky soil. All in all, a good bargain, dry and completely big enough for one person.Gets the job done! Plenty of compartments for my day-to-day stuff. Plenty of room for my laptop and other work items. But it looks great and I'm sure she'll love it. I love this pack. I primarily use it as a day pack. I have three young kids that I hike with and always bring some camera gear (usually one camera body and two lenses). Between the camera gear, water, snacks, some diapers, etc, this pack carries it all with no problem. I love that it is constructed of really light, but durable material.
At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the separate compartment that covers and can be pull back from the main compartment but after getting used to it I think it's a great design. It allows access from the top and if you lay it down and pull the separate compartment back, access like a panel loader. -seems durable and high quality -great pocket and organizing options -I guess just read the feature list, it's right on -nothing comes to mind I ordered this for an upcoming trip to Asia this summer. I think it is going to be perfect. It is a great size and fits me well. I used the Redwing 32 during our family's recent week-long trip to Hawai'i. I appreciated the light weight and numerous pockets. I was able to comfortably fit light jackets, a change of clothes, snacks, and three 1L bottles of water for a family of 5. I was also able to throw my big DSLR in there with some room to spare. Somewhere out there a reviewer complained about the waist belt barely fitting his 34" waist.
I've got a 33/34" waist and I still had a few inches on each belt; maybe Kelty revised the waist belt length? That said, I feel like the 32 is the perfect size for travel without making it too bulky. Another winner in my book! I have used this backpack every weekend since it arrived. We live in Utah and spend a lot of time with our son old hiking and skiing. This backpack is super comfortable and the perfect size to carry what we need for the day. The adjustments are great and the waist belt is perfect when I need a bit more support (i.e, when we have the Craft Growler I also bought tucked in there!). After Using this pack, I love all the adjustments and comfort of wearing. The only draw back is the waist belt. If you have bigger than a 37 inch waist or are wearing a coat there isn't enough strap to buckle it. I used this back for three days straight. The construction is awesome and comfort, no back or shoulder pain what so ever. I am going back to the waist belt again. This was a real hassle, getting it under my coat to be able to buckle it .
