Showing reviews 1-10 of 13 First of all I love that the pack is your compression sacks. I bought this pack because my 120L pack was killing me because I had it loaded down. It usually weight in at around 70 lbs. I found this pack and started re-buying all new gear. I have this pack at 40lbs max. The only cons I have about it is the padding all around could be a little thicker, not too big of a deal! I do wish the side flap was split into a top and bottom pocket instead of 1 2 foot deep pocket. Besides that, Best pack I've ever carried!!! Used PK50 with success this past week on the AT on N Ga /NC. Was out for 3 days, 2 nights loaded to ~32#. Did 40 mile stretch over really rough/varied terrain. Was a little hesitant since no zippers, but closures worked fine for me. Like the clothes carrier as a pillow, *****. Pack cover just a bit on the tight side,***, but kept things dry in torrential thunderstorm. Waist belt was pinching, but changed pants and removed belt which really made it a lot more comfortable.

*** As long as you keep weight +/- 30# you should be okay.Make a larger version. I have this pack for a year now. Used it in many hikes. Straps a kind of wick but it's a great pack for light weight hiking. I wish they make a bigger more heavy weigh version. OK, just got back from my third trip using this bag . . . here are the pros and cons . . . Pro: great, innovative and functional design. The quickest and easiest pack I've ever used when it comes to setting up camp. I pack clothes and misc in detachable outer compartment; tent, stove, water filter in big mesh; So easy to drop pack, pull out/set up tent, disconnect clothes, etc and toss inside. Side mesh pockets are easy to access with pack on. like belt pockets for GPS and MP3 player. No zippers to worry about is a plus! Cons: the suspension/belt system is mediocre: this is the only major complaint. Belt/padding is a little whimpy: you WILL notice if pack is fully loaded (~45-50#), Shoulder straps dig sideways into my traps/neck.

Why isn't there a width adjustment? Opening for sleeping bag is SMALL: my summer sleeping bag easily fit but I had to load my cold weather bag thru top hole. Wonder how durable mesh pockets are given they already have holes in them (I am NOT rough on my gear). Bottom compression straps (off side pockets) could use to be higher as they kept sliding down/off. Finally, the 2 upper straps/buckles that hold on outer detachable compartment should be reversed (put female buckle side on detach pack) which would make it to work with . . . . So, overall, a good pack. Just need to work on the details a bit more. I wonder how much they tested this before selling. I think the CONS above are obvious and should be easy to fix . . . .makes me wish I waited for version 2! I bought the pk 50 to replace a 40L pack. I also got the cosmic 20 sleeping bag. I was hoping that the sleeping compartment would allow for the cosmic, and with a compression sack it does fit, but not much room for much else. I ordered the sb 35 and am hoping it will fit much better.

I primarily hammock camp, so i did not use the tent tn2 that goes with this pack, but i still felt it was a great set up. I was able to put my 3L bladder in the main compartment and then had a 1L platypus or 1L Nalgene in the side pocket. On the other side i was able to keep my camera/phone and easily reach back to get it. I am 5' 10" with 32" waist and the S/M fit well. It road well on the hips and did not get much shoulder strain like i have gotten with other packs. Like others have said, this pack is only a 50L and a 60L or 65L would be ideal, but still a great pack for 3 nights or hiking. I loved all the compartments and was able to leave behind several compression sacks and just use the build in compartments. I do wish the 15L removable part would buckle into each other, so when removed you could just unbuckle and then wrap around a rope and hang out of the way by just using the buckles on it to buckle into each other, but still it is a great feature to just remove and put out of the way.

I hope this review helps someone else, but overall if only needing for a few nights it is great, any more than that and i would go up to at least a 65L. I hope Kelty is reading this because i would like to suggest that they make a bigger version of this pack. A 70L or an even bigger version for longer hikes and more gear. And also, even thought this pack is more organized than the average pack, i would like it to have more separated compartments and pockets for organization purposes. I wish they made one a little larger (75 or 80) and I would have both for different trips, but this is perfect for a 3-5 day bivy pack trip. They really did think of everything, it's loaded with features. I really like the detachable compartment, makes it a nice day pack for taking off from your base camp. I just purchased this bag two days ago and am completely blown away with its innovative features. Took a bit of relearning to pack this backpack at first, but once I figured it out everything slide right into place, and repacking later was quite simple.
