Leesburg Kiwanis made donations recently to Mobile Hope and Backpack Buddies.... For 59 years the Leesburg Kiwanis club has sponsored the annual Halloween parade in Leesburg. This year will be our 60th anniversary. Come out on Monday, October 31, in costume if you like, to watch high school and music school bands, decorated floats, classic cars, police, fire, and rescue units, animals, and more. Just line the route anywhere on King Street between Ida Lee Park and Safeway to be entertained and get some treats (CANDY). The biggest crowds are north of Market Street and near Safeway; near Loudoun Street is a good place to get a better view and easier access to candy.

We ask all participants to keep in mind that this is a Halloween parade first and foremost—decorated floats, costumed participants, and passing out lots of treats to thousands of viewers of all ages. Whatever you do, respect the parade’s sole purpose, and keep it moving--our viewers don't like the parade to get too long, especially on a school night, and gaps between units for political and business promotion is a big cause. The Kiwanis Club of Leesburg Virginia, founded by local business leaders in March, 1957, is an organization of volunteers--business people, professionals, government workers, moms and dads, and retirees--dedicated to serving Loudoun County one child and one community at a time.

The club is best known for the annual Halloween parade that it sponsors in Leesburg. Every Halloween since 1957 children of all ages watch police, fire, and rescue units, high school marching bands, floats, groups, and politicians parade down King Street and pass out candy. In recent years, over 100 participating units delight an estimated 10-15,000 people with floats, marching bands, groups of all types, and, of course, candy! We sponsor Key Clubs in five Loudoun high schools including all three Leesburg high schools. Students run these service leadership programs under faculty supervision, learning community service by sponsoring projects that benefit their school and the community at large and receiving valuable leadership training and experience. The Kiwanis club has in the pass taken a group of Key Club members to Richmond, while the legislature is in session to witness state government in action. Students typically meet with the governor or lieutenant governor, assistant attorney general, and both state senators and delegates who represent their families.
