The annual East Baton Rouge Parish Library Summer Reading Programs kicks off in May! This summer is sure to be packed with great books, exciting programs, and fabulous prizes. With a program for every age group, the entire family can participate! The fun starts on Tuesday, May 31. All locations of the Library will have reading logs for each age group (Children, Teens, and Adults). These logs will be available until the end of July. While each group has a different theme and guidelines - the goal is the same - to READ! is this year’s theme for the Children’s Summer Reading Program – logs may be picked up beginning Tuesday, May 31, and will be handed out through Sunday, July 31. activities will feature events that spotlight the performing arts, visual arts, literature, and science – all showing children how to tap into their creative sides. Children will receive a free book and special incentives just for Children who are unable to read may join the

read-to-me program and have an adult or older child pledge to read to them. Kids Summer Reading Rules The theme for the Teen Summer Reading Program this year is Get in the Game: READ. Teens grades 6 to 12 may start their journey by signing up at any library location starting Friday, May 20. You have until Sunday, July 31, to turn in your book logs for prize drawings. On Halloween, Volunteers got into the Spirit . dressing up and even signing some autographs!! Ballet Cat is a new favorite series by Bob Shea!! THANK YOU to: Award Winning Author/Illustrator Peter Brown for an amazing presentation on September 22, 2016 Thank you for your AMAZING donations for the Lincoln Food Bank’s BackPack Program!! Our gifts change lives!! THANK YOU for your CAN donations in April!! This will get us $78 worth of new books for the library! Thank you for recycling!! On Friday, March 4, HATS ON for Hunger, $452.87 in donations were raised by Maxey students, staff and volunteers!! Money will go to the Food Bank for the BackPack program, benefitting Lincoln families. Thank You to Maxey students and families who attended the Maxey Book Fair at the South Pointe Barnes and Noble on Thursday, November 5! Each Friday during the school year, hungry kids get a backpack of food to take home for their families. The cost of one food backpack is $225 this year. We had an assembly on March 18, 2015 to give more details about the Food Bank Backpack program.

We turned them in to the local recycling centers and Barnes and Noble will give us some new books!! Results of how much we earned for new books: $118! THAT’s our BEST ever!!
