It is essentially a stuff sac with several different compartments. We put socks in one compartment, underwear in another etc. then we pull the compression straps to make it as small as possible creating more space in our bags.   The temp plummets as you search for those base layers in the bottom of your pack. By the time you pull them out, gear is strewn across the trail like a busted piñata.  We’ve all been in this situation, but there is a solution to the common pack explosion: Gobi Gear's Hobo Roll.   I’ve been traveling with a Hoboroll for years now.
It’s basically a tube-like bag divided into five sections that helps make packing things like socks and underwear a breeze. They just released new versions of the Hoboroll (made from lighter material), and I’m in love all over again. For the little stuff that packing cubes don’t really work for, I highly recommend the Hoboroll!    What it is and Why its Smart -  Read more... The Hobo Roll is not your standard stuff sack. With 5 internal compartments and 2 compression straps to condense your cargo, it makes a perfect packing organizer for all sorts of items and can double as a spare carry-on for the extra stuff you bring home from your adventures.   It's lightweight and will hold a fair amount of stuff. For a three-day trip, I got three shirts, three pairs of underwear, three pairs of socks, a pair of lightweight pants, a pair of flip-flops and some miscellaneous toiletries into a very small package. Nomads will appreciate the Hoboroll with its multiple storage compartments enabling you to sort your belongings, then gives you the ability to compress those items into a single compact carrying case.
Whether needing to make room in your suitcase or backpack, the HoboRoll may be something to consider. The Hoboroll solves the organization problem through a clever series of internal compartments that run the length of the roll, similar to segments inside an orange, five compartments in total. The compartments can be used for separating and organizing your items and in return giving you easy access to what you need, when you need it. “It’s like the compression bags and stuff sacks that you use for backpacking dad, but it has a handle right on it and doesn’t need to be put inside another backpack. It’s really easy to put all my stuff in it and squeeze it up tight.” – Jack, aged 7 Read more… Keep organized travelers happy with the Hoboroll from Gobi Gear, a lightweight sack that keeps items separated with wedge-like compartments. The bag compresses down when cinched closed. My things were always easy to reach thanks to double-ended openings cinched with a drawstring and clip.
On the go, I just slung the strap across my shoulder and had my hands free. The roll became my day-bag for the duration of the trip. This thing is basically a garter for your clothes. (Suck it in, jeans.) The material is a very lightweight nylon, and both ends are fitted with drawstrings, so you can actually use the Hoboroll as a bag itself. Which I will be doing in the near future in my never-ending quest to reduce the apparel section of my luggage. Compact and lightweight, this luggage organizer provides compression of items as well as multiple storage compartments. To save space in my backpack, I used it to store and compress sandals and bulky jackets. It also doubled as a pack for a multi-day trip. “It saved me from having to dig around my luggage for my clothes, separated dirty garments from clean, and could even be used as a pillow on the plane!” – Holly. The Hoboroll, by Gobi Gear, is one of those ideas that make you say, “why didn’t I think of that?!”
It is a compression sack with five dividers, allowing people, like me, to keep their dirty, smelly, grungy, disgusting, cloths away from other things in the bag. I immediately knew it would be a great thing for traveling, but I didn’t appreciate how useful it would be in other aspects of life as well. It was a tight squeeze but I managed to get it all in, which astounded me! When I cinched the ends closed I found they wouldn’t fully close, but did cinch enough to stop everything falling out. Next, I clipped the compression strap buckles together and gave a good yank on the straps to compress the roll. I managed to get some compression to reduce the diameter, as shown in the photo. I really loved this, particularly for organzing dirty laundry. It also opens on both ends and you can pack it on the inside or outside of your pack. Very handy for long tern travellers. So, when I was approached by Gobi Gear to review their new Hoboroll — a packing aid for backpackers — I reluctantly agreed;
the plastic bag I pack clothes in always worked fine before…I’ve now been carrying the Hoboroll for two months across Asia and like it more and more every day. Not only do I instantly know where to find all my clothes at any given instant, the module doesn’t even wrinkle T-shirts if I take the time to roll them properly first. I’ve been rained on a lot here and spend a lot of time in the sand; the nylon material provides a little bonus moisture and dirt protection to keep stuff clean. I took my Hoboroll on a field run on our four-day backpack trip from Tuolemne Meadows to Yosemite Valley last July. We were short on pack space (three adults and three kids in your backpacking party will do that to you), so it was the perfect opportunity to put Hoboroll’s claim of reducing pack volume by 50% to the test…. My verdict: I loved that when I needed clothes, I didn’t have to dump everything out into the dirt of our night’s camp. The Hoboroll keeps everything clean, and to keep things that way, I simply loaded my dirty clothes into the opposite end.
Clean clothing from one side, dirty into the other…simple as that. Trying to fit more than 1 weeks worth of clothes into your carry-on or back pack can be a challenge. There are often times when I need 2+ weeks of clothes and I know I won’t have an opportunity to wash them during that time period. This means packing space is critical and maximizing what I can carry is very important. The Hoboroll helps you make the most of limited space. Packing is one part of travel that I will wait until the very last second on. Scrambling to get my bags together a few hours before heading out the door? I’ll have my plane, train, and bus tickets, a list of all possible places to gorge on delicious Read More.... We've been testing out the hoboroll to help stay organized with our packing. As a travelling family of four we need to compress as much as we can when we pack. The Hobo Roll is a unique and efficient travel organizer for adventure junkies of all levels. It offers item separation and volume reduction in a lightweight design.
Simply open, stuff compartments to desired fullness and tighten the roll using the expandable straps and you are ready to go! The Hobo Roll also features a unique tool loop for extra, awkwardly shaped, or quick use items such as your water bottle. As many of you know, I’m on the move almost as often as I’m staying put.  Between trips down south to visit family, to press trips for the website, to weekend escapes, it sometimes feels like the second I unpack my Weekender I’m packing it up once again.   While on recent travels, we had the opportunity to test out the Hoboroll by Gobi Gear.  The Hoboroll is designed to organize luggage and gear in different compartments while having the ability to cinch down the items.  Made of nylon to reduce added weight and including an extra long cinch strap, the Hoboroll is truly unique. I have to show you guys this handy little bag I discovered. It’s called a Hoboroll. Cute name, uber handy. It’s perfect to use as a FIT pack, meaning everything you need to stay fit on vacation – or a long day on the road – is inside.
If you’re serious about getting – or staying – in shape while you’re out of your element, it’s essential to be prepared with workout gear, gadgets, inspiration, and snacks. , at least with regard to pack (or bag) for a long trip to one of average duration or for a weekend getaway. Over the years,  to take only the essentials and a few "just acasos." You’ll find an abundance of travel advice about how to pack lighter for your worldwide travels. Often the advice involves you getting by with less. Pack fewer shirts, fewer pants, fewer underwear, fewer socks and so on. But wouldn’t it be nice to pack a smaller footprint while still bringing the same amount of swag? Not with the Hoboroll from GobiGear. Ever since my sister bought me a compression sack for Christmas before my trip to Australia, I have used them on every trip. I’ve written about them on Her Packing List and even ordered myself a second one. But what all of them have been missing is more organization.
