It’s been a while since we’ve covered anything STM Bags, so was a treat try to out the Trestle, a mid-sized back pack from STM Bags’s Annex collection.
The Trestle is a backpack that has the appearance of having a smaller frame than most 13 inch laptop-holders. Yet it will surprise you with how much you can actually stuff in it, all while remaining perfectly comfortable to wear. Let’s go over the specifics. STM Bags’ Annex collection focuses on a retro and urban look with interiors built to protect your most prized tech. The collection houses backpacks, shoulder bags, and sleeves of different sizes with products offering protection for 15-inch laptops down to 13-inch laptops and tablets of smaller sizes. The Trestle is the middle size of the Annex backpack family, designed to support 13-inch laptops with the possibility of holding some 14-inchers. –        main material(s): Cottna 320D –        lining: 200D water resistant polyester –        device space: 9.25 x 13.19 x 1.18 in / 23.5 x 33.5 x 3 cm –        outer dimensions: 16.5 x 11 x 5.25 in / 41.9 x 27.9 x 13.3 cm –        capacity: 15 L
–        weight: 1.6 lbs / 0.7 kg As for the meat and potatoes, the Trestle’s main compartment houses a padded laptop slot with an additional sleeve for a tablet. Against that, you have some smaller pockets for smaller devices and some strappings for some minor cable management. On the other side, you have another sleeve for folders or paper work. On the outside of the main compartment, you have a smaller compartment with a zip-up pocket and another smaller pocket for your pens and smaller devices. Around the top-front of the Trestle, you have a small felt zip up pocket for cell phones or sunglasses. On the sides, you have one elastic pocket for holding drinks and another zip up pocket on the other side. On the back of the Trestle you have a foam mesh back panel built for air flow and comfort. Along the middle of that panel there’s a pass-through strap for sliding the Trestle onto your luggage. I used the Trestle for about 3 weeks now and I have to say I have no complaints.
The last bag I used and reviewed was a much larger and heavier bag, made for housing 15 inch laptops, 13 inch tablets and a portable battery. So I was a bit skeptical when I first glanced at the Trestle, as I wondered if it was able to handle my daily load to and from the office. I was impressed to find out that I didn’t have to sacrifice a single thing as I transferred my daily belongings to the smaller-framed Trestle. So what I had here were my gym clothes, knee compression sleeves, and a protein shake mixer cup, all stuffed into that Mets drawstring bag. Continuing on, I had my Surface Pro 3, my sack o’ cables, plugs and techy tools, and a hoodie (not shown). Not only did all of this fit snuggly in the Trestle, but it did so while not warping the frame and shape of the Trestle. The back padding and padding on the shoulder straps made the load a breeze to carry. I was immediately proud of the fact that I took up less space on the train and felt comfortable doing so. As for my stuff, the padding around my Surface Pro 3 proved to be adequate in protection and gave me a peace of mind that my stuff was nice and safe.
