exercise which was invented in the 1920's.  Since then Physiotherapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals have refined the the method using modern day principles of exercise and rehabilitation science to create the brand Stott Pilates®. The aim of pilates is to achieve optimal musculoskeletal performance, including strength, flexibility and endurance, without the risk of injury.  Mat workouts incorporate many balanced exercise sequences for all ages and populations, focusing on core stability, shoulder girdle stabilization, breathing and correct placement of the pelvis, ribs, neck and head.  This form of exercise is ideal for people who struggle with chronic back and neck pain, as well as reoccurring injuries. HYDROTHERAPYHydrotherapy is a water based exercise program specifically designed for people who have trouble weight bearing.  The water acts as a buoyant, taking pressure of the feet, knees, hips and back.  Cardiovascular endurance as well as muscle tone can greatly be improved without placing strain on your joints.

:Please call for quote Jamie Heaviside MSc, Registered Physical TherapistJamie moved to Port Alberni in February 2015 and has felt at home ever since. He loves the outdoors and is happy to be promoting health and wellbeing on Vancouver Island. Jamie graduated from Glasgow University in 2007 with a Masters degree in Rehabilitation Science. Before moving to Canada, Jamie worked for the British Army, and volunteered with many sporting associations including the Scottish Rugby Union and Scottish Athletics. Jamie is a very thorough Physiotherapist who specializes in kinetic control and myofascial release. He is also trained in acupuncture, podiatry and orthopaedic medicine. Trish Leslie BSc(HONS), Registered Physical TherapistTrish grew up in Ucluelet and moved to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2007 to complete her degree in Physiotherapy.  Since 2012 she has been working in a variety of fields in Victoria including orthopaedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, neurology and sports physiotherapy.  
In 2016 she took additional training to specialize in women's health issues including pelvic pain, incontinence and prolapse.Trish is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (MCPA) and is certified in acupuncture from Acupuncture Foundation Canada Institute.  Her treatments focus on manual techniques, electrotherapy, education and exercise.  She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and also a love for small communities, making her a perfect fit for Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino.  In her spare time, Trish likes to play soccer and enjoy the outdoors with her family. Jane Cruttenden BSc(HONS), Registered Physical TherapistJane graduated from Brunel University, London, England in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science. Her love of traveling brought her to Port Alberni in 2007, and she has never left. Jane fell in love with the community of Port Alberni and the outdoorsy lifestyle that came with it. Her love for sports has enabled her to play and physio for the Black Sheep Rugby Club and Alberni Athletics soccer team.
Jane is a well rounded Physiotherapist with training in sports injuries, pilates, manual therapy, Mckenzie, acupuncture and craniosacral therapy. Caitlin Irwin BSc, Kinesiologist Caitlin graduated from the University of Victoria in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology Major.  During her time at UVic, she worked for the Canadian Forces Naval Reserves, and volunteered with many different sports associations, including the Velox Valhallians Rugby Football Club.Growing up in Canmore, Alberta, Caitlin developed a love for the outdoors, so it was no surprise that she found her way to Port Alberni in January 2014.  She enjoys camping and fishing trips with family and friends, as well as hiking and paddle boarding adventures with her dog.  Caitlin specializes in injury prevention and rehabilitation through exercise.  She recently trained as a Stott Pilates instructor and is looking forward to seeing the benefits that Pilates brings to people with biomechanical pain.  She also has a great talent for transitioning people back to work after injury, whether it be through guidance and education or through exercise.
Linda Newton, Office AdministratorLinda moved to Port Alberni at a young age from the UK. She has worked at Port Alberni Physiotherapy Clinic for over 25 years and plays an integral role in the smooth running of the clinic.
